Hello, Gene here, and it looks like I’ve been running around for months without a web presence. Well, don’t I feel silly. Instead of spending hours going through old stuff, editing, putting up a new site just for a portfolio, I thought “hey, why don’t I throw a few old favorites up on the blog”. So, here it is.
First, above, my business card, featuring Broseph. The boys, a pair of darling Siamese twins, were part of a series called Super-Freaks, which also included the four-armed Super-Christ (the only God you’ll ever need), pictured below. This image is a detail, the actual piece is 8′ tall and loses a little, uh, sparkle?!, when shrunk down for the internet.
Next we have Sinistra, the wolf hand. Sinistra is Italian for left. It’s also what my Aunt called me, once, when I was but a child… because I’m a leftie, you see.
Next, a drawing of my pen I happen to like. Did this one during a bleak artistic period right after my Dad died. A little different for me. I don’t read too much into it, I was probably on the phone a mindlessly doodling.
A few drawings of the Cussing Canary. A character I used for a few comic strips that I’d leave around, mostly at Milwaukee and Chicago area coffee houses, while we traveled back and forth, a few years ago. For whatever reason, though I haven’t draw a strip in years, I keep drawing the foul-mouthed little bugger. Can’t explain it …probably a cry for help.
Next, a Tiger-Man sketch for the 10′ guitar titled Meow Meow, Moon, Meow, I did for the Waukesha Guitartown Project. More info here.
The following is a promo I drew up for the grand opening of our now defunct gallery.
A few pages of my “unfinished symphony”. Burger Wars was meant to be a graphic novel. I worked on the project, on and off, for a couple years. Never finished it, lost interest, but the pages still pop up now and then.
Last but not least, Pink Elephants Go Home. A drawing that I did for an “art” contest sponsored by Pabst. I did it for shits and giggles (not to mention dollar beers and a Pabst belt buckle). The drawing has taken on a life of its own. Appearing on t-shirts, promos and on several walls across the country, including the Bay View bowl, locally.
Thanks for stopping by and if you’re interested there are tons of stuff on the blog if you want to see more. New stuff coming soon!
